1892: A post office is granted
1896: Angleton was chosen the new county seat of Brazoria County over the town of Brazoria - even though a monumental courthouse by J. Riely Gordon had been built in hopes of securing the county seat. (See photos of remains of the building) The battle was one of the most contested courthouse battles in state history. The controversy resurfaced in 1913, when Brazoria tried again to become county seat. Once again it failed.
1900: The hurricane known as the Galveston Storm destroyed Angleton's High School and the University of SouthTexas.
1907: Community band is formed by newspaper editor
1909: Another hurricane destroys the rebuilt high school
1912: Angleton incorporates, electrical service arrives
1923: The last legal hanging in Texas occurred on August 31, 1923.
WWII: County Fairgrounds are used as POW camp.
